Robert Zemeckis has been plotting a new adaptation of Roald Dahl tome The Witches for a while now, but with Welcome To Marwen out in the world, he can start to focus on the fantasy pic. And he's locked in his first actor for the movie, with Anne Hathaway making a deal to play the Grand High Witch.

Zemeckis' take, which he's also writing, is looking to hew more closely to the 1973 novel than Nicolas Reog's 1990 film. But it'll still tell the story of a seven-year-old boy who learns that witches are real and have a dark plan for the children of the world. Hathaway will play the role brought to life by Anjelica Huston in the '90s version.

While Hathaway had been trying to figure out scheduling for this and the Sesame Street film, everything has been ironed out and she can make them both. Before either kicks off shooting she'll be seen in Serenity (due 1 March) and The Hustle, which has a 10 May release date.
