Amy Schumer was briefly attached to play a main character in the Barbie movie, but she's since left the film. Now, though, the producers must be hoping their next possibility comes through: Anne Hathaway.

The news has first been reported by The Ankler, so we don't have much in the way of verification yet, but trade mags are also reporting the news, so you have to figure that talks are under way, even if it doesn't end up with Hathaway in the role.

In development for a while and reportedly churning through scripts and concepts, but clearly all involved (including former Sony boss Amy Pascal) think that they might have hit on something, and an idea that would appear to Hathaway. Still, now the question is whether her own schedule will accommodate it. Director Alethea Jones, who has Fun Mom Dinner incoming, is in talks to direct, but everything is still up in the air.

Naturally, there's no word on a release date yet. Hathaway has Ocean's Eight due next year and is filming Steven Knight's new thriller Serenity.
