Martin Scorsese is already filming on his star-studded latest gangster tale, The Irishman. But he isn't finished adding names to the cast. Anna Paquin is the latest actor joining the ensemble.
Adapted by Steven Zaillian from Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses, ("painting houses" being slang for victims' blood spray) the film will follow the life of mob hit man Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran (Robert De Niro), whose career allegedly included the slaying of union leader Jimmy Hoffa. Paquin is aboard to be Peggy, the strong-willed daughter of Frank and his wife Mary. She loathes his lifestyle and his killer job, and starts to distance herself from him. And she worries about his impact on her life, concerned that his wrath may end up killing those who have wronged her in whatever way.
De Niro and Paquin are just two elements in a sprawling cast that also includes Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Bobby Cannavale, Ray Romano, Stephen Graham, Kathrine Narducci, Gary Basaraba and Craig Vincent. Netflix is funding the film, and aims to get the films into cinemas before hitting its service in order to qualify it for potential awards.
