Though you could picture her bringing her typical offbeat effervescence to the role of an elf, you might automatically think Anna Kendrick when you consider potential Santa Claus candidates. Disney, though, is thinking differently, kicking off talks with Kendrick about starring in a new Christmas comedy film.
Miss Congeniality's Marc Lawrence has written the movie, and is busy developing it to direct. The story, which has a working title Nicole, follows what happens when the big guy decides to retire. His son, who is initially chosen to take over the family business, gets a case of low elf-confidence (no apologies for that pun) the night before his first solo Christmas Eve flight and so his sister has to take over. Shades of Arthur Christmas, then, but it sounds likely a potentially fun version of the "someone other than Santa saves Christmas" story.
Before she can even consider hopping on to a sleigh though, Kendrick will be shooting Pitch Perfect 3, which has just kicked off and is due in UK cinemas on 22 December. She'll also be seen in comedy drama Table 19, out on 3 March.
