It was just last week that we learned** Pitch Perfect**producer and co-star Elizabeth Banks would be stepping up to the director’s chair to oversee the sequel. Then, it was only assumed that stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson would be back, but they’ve gone and made it official.
Kendrick, in the original, was college freshman Beca, who reluctantly signs on to an a capella group that also includes the self-titled Fat Amy (Wilson). Beca ends up helping them to win a place in the national a capella finals and makes a few friends along the way. Thanks to hugely positive word of mouth, the movie took more than $115 million worldwide, saw its soundtrack go platinum and launched a million YouTube Cups videos{
Writer Kay Cannon is at work on the screenplay’s sequel, but no one is talking plot just yet. Presumably it’ll feature more of the same, with fresh songs and Becca and Amy dealing with new problems.
Kendrick will be back on screens in Rob Marshall’s new musical Into The Woods (due here January 9, 2015) and indie movie The Last Five Years. Wilson has a part in Night At The Museum 3 and will be heard in Kung Fu Panda 3.
