With its main cast largely in place, the TV adaptation of Terry Pratchett's The Watch stories is filling out the wider world of chaotic city Ankh-Morpork. And the team is rounding up quite the ensemble, with Anna Chancellor, James Fleet (Four Weddings reunion klaxon!) and Ingrid Oliver among them.

Writer Simon Allen and director Craig Viveiros are in charge of the show, which adapts Pratchett's various books following the ramshackle adventures of Ankh-Morpork's City Watch, a collection of humans, dwarves, werewolves and whatever Nobby Nobbs is, as they try to keep order in a largely lawless municipality. They're led by Sam Vimes (Richard Dormer), who has to keep his temper in check even as both the city and his officers test it.

Chancellor will be Lord Vetinari, the Patrician of the city, with Fleet as the Archchancellor, head wizard magical training faculty Unseen University. Oliver's on as the head of the Assassins' Guild, Doctor Cruces, while Ruth Madely is Throat, the city's best snitch. Hakeem Kae-Kazim will be Captain John Keel, former leader of The Watch and mentor to Vimes. Finally, we have Bianca Simone, the cunning Wonse, a wizard trainee.

Described as a "punk rock drama", the eight-part series will shoot in South Africa and arrive on our screens next year.
