There's no official word of quite what her involvement is, but the Reuters agency is reporting that Angelina Jolie's immediate next project is a love story set during the 1992-95 Bosnian War{
Shooting is set to start in the autumn, and the film involves a couple who meet just before the conflict (which resulted in the partition of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the creation of over a million refugees) and their relationship as the war progresses.
Jolie was in Sarajevo at the weekend in her UN Goodwill Ambassador role, meeting members of Bosnia's inter-ethnic presidency to discuss the refugee situation. But, she says, "The film is a love story, not a political statement." The cast "will feature various ethnicities of the former Yugoslavia. I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can."
So what's going on? The Reuters story is light on specifics, but Filmofilia say they have a source confirming that this will be Jolie's debut behind the camera (not counting the A Place in Time documentary), and that she'll also take the lead female role. They also have word that the project will be finalised at the start of September, when Jolie meets with her prospective Serbian co-producer Filip Gajic, and that Rade Serbedzija (Fugitive Pieces) will co-star.
Nothing is yet set in stone, and Gajic and Serbedzija wouldn't be drawn to comment. But crucially, Filmofilia believe, they didn't deny anything either... More concrete details soon, we hope. Watch this space for updates.
