Angela Bassett Says This Means War

You might think that McG was already finished shooting spy action comedy This Means War, but you’d be mistaken. And he’s added another actor to the cast in the shape of Angela Bassett.

She’ll play the CIA boss overseeing agents Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, who go head to head when they fall in love with the same woman (Reese Witherspoon) and compete to win her heart by essentially trying to kill each other, causing massive property damage in the process. Bassett’s veteran agent is a career spy who has given over her life to the CIA and has no social life to speak of. Anyone want to bet she’ll re-discover her heart in the course of the film’s romantic shenanigans?

While we’re still not 100% sold on the concept, it does boast a great cast – beyond the central triumvirate and Bassett’s boss, there’s also David Koechner, Til Schweiger and US talk show host/comedienne Chelsea Handler.

With a script by Timothy Dowling, Marcus Gautesen, Burr Steers and probably several hundred other people, **This Means War **should arrive some time next year. Bassett, meanwhile, will also crop up in **Green Lantern **and is has snagged a TV pilot, One Police Plaza, which will see her starring as New York’s first female police commissioner.
