Following the success of Bad Neighbours, writer Andrew Jay Cohen has wrangled himself a promotion for his next gig. He'll step up to direct **Thrill Ride, based on a pitch that he and his writing cohort Brendan O'Brien have cooked up.

Fox bought the idea, and Cohen and O'Brien will also produce along with Chernin Entertainment. The story involves the senior class at a high school where bullying is rife. They're given the run of an amusement park for a night, but soon find that the exits are sealed and a killer is among them, causing inventive deaths on the rides. The mutually hostile kids have to form alliances to survive.

Deadline says the film will be a horror comedy along the lines of This Is The End and Scream, which is interesting because those two examples aren't at all alike.

The specifics have yet to be thrashed out, however, because the script hasn't been written yet. That job has fallen not to the Bad Neighbours boys themselves, but to newcomer Peter Warren, who currently has a single IMDb credit for an episode of MTV's comedy Happyland.

Cohen and O'Brien are also writing and producing Chernin Entertainment's Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates, which SNL's Jake Szymanski is directing. That one's further along the development process, so expect to see it first.
