The character of James Rhodes changed his appearance between Iron Man and the rest of the MCU as Terrence Howard was swapped out for Don Cheadle. But the idea that Andrew Garfield might be next to play him is certainly a surprising... Sorry, what? Oh. We're being told that Garfield will actually portray real-life pianist James Rhodes in a new biopic called Instrumental. Carry on...
James Marsh, no stranger to true-life tales of struggle and accomplishment after The Theory Of Everything and The Mercy, is on to direct the story of Rhodes, which will be based on his eponymous memoir, subtitled A Memoir Of Madness, Medication And Music. It'll chart his life dealing with sexual abuse as a pupil at an all-boys school, mental and physical torment, eating disorders and PTSD, with his abuser dying before he could appear in court. His love of music saved his life, and he became an internationally acclaimed concert pianist.
The cameras should be rolling later this year, while Garfield has a few projects in the works including new drama Mainstream.
