He might be spending his time swinging around in glorified pyjamas as Spider-Man, but it would seem Andrew Garfield is considering something a little more low-key for a future role, as he’s attached to co-star in Adrian Lyne’s Back Roads.
Adapted from Tawni O’Dell’s bestselling novel by Lyne and the author herself, the story follows a young man who finds himself as the main caregiver for his three younger sisters when their mother is locked in prison for killing her abusive husband. So while it won’t feature a lot of Garfield taking on villains, it does promise the sort of damaged character he brings to life so well (see: Never Let Me Go and The Social Network).
Jennifer Garner is also on board, set to play a woman Garfield falls for (lucky dog!) and Marcia Gay Harden will crop up as his court-appointed therapist.
With Lyne aiming to start shooting in June, the hunt is on to find the actresses who can play the sisters, and according to Variety, the producers are running down the list of high-profile names to take on the role.
