In the flurry of casting news about T****he Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it’s easy to forget that there are lots of other Euro-thrillers waiting in the wings to be adapted. And according to the LA Times, there has been some movement on Tell No One, with Chopper/ The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’s Andrew Dominik the latest to sign on to write a version of the script.
Tell No One has been squarely in Hollywood’s sights since 2007 when Guillaume Canet pulled off the impressive feat of adapting US author Harlan Coben’s novel into a compelling and taut French film. It's the story of a doctor who believes his wife was murdered years ago but who starts getting messages which make him believe that she’s still alive.
Back in early 2009, Kathleen Kennedy grabbed up the rights to remake the film for American audiences without all that pesky French, returning it back to the language in which the book was written. While it was hoped that the movie could be filming right now (Kennedy reached out to David Fincher at one point to see if he’d be interested in making it), not much has happened since. Part of the problem was that Miramax helped Focus Features buy the rights and since that company has been sold, Focus is now handling the project on its own.
Dominik getting hired to start work on a script sounds like the film might finally be getting some traction again. The big question is, should it be remade at all? We bet the producers watch carefully how Let Me In performs before making any real decisions…
