After the success of La La Land, Damien Chazelle focused on two projects, follow-up film First Man, which was actually planned before the musical romance, and new TV series The Eddy, which scored an order from Netflix. He's now rounded up a star to anchor the show, making the smart choice to hire André Holland.
The series is set in Paris and revolves around a jazz club, the house band and the chaotic city that surrounds them. Holland will play Elliot Udo, who was a celebrated jazz pianist in New York, but has moved to Paris and is now the part-owner of a failing jazz club. He has an on-again off-again relationship with his lead singer, but is emotionally stunted and is hiding from everyone. When his 15-year-old daughter shows up suddenly, Elliot has to face his weakness and learn to grow up.
Chazelle is planning eight episodes, with a script by Jack Thorne and and a plan to start shooting on location in Paris later this year. Holland is on Netflix screens now with High Flying Bird.
