Paul W.S. to remake Corman classic

He's at it again. Word has it that Paul W.S. Anderson is set to be an even busier boy this year than last, as he has signed on to write a third feature. In addition to the second Resident Evil sequel (Afterlife) and Vincenzo Natali's Necropolis, Anderson is taking on scribe duties for Death Race 3000. He's also going to direct it. "Death Race What?", you say? Gather round, kids. For anyone who's not aware, this project is the long rumoured remake of the 1975 cult classic Death Race 2000. Produced by the legendary, Empire Independent Spirit Award winning Roger Corman, and starring a narrowly pre-Rocky Sylvester Stallone and David 'Bill' Carradine. For those of the right age (which was, not uncommonly, decidedly less than the classification certificate permitted) Deathrace was almost compulsory viewing in that heyday of the VCR, the early to mid 80's. Like all good exploitation films, it was a thickly disguised satire on corporate control of a nation's love of bloodsport - like Rollerball (also 1975) without the boring talky bits, and a lot more visceral action
