If those Trolls can score a film, then surely an icon like Barbie deserves no lesser treatment. Actually, a movie based on the plastic plaything has been in the works for several years, with different takes that never quite seemed to stick. Now Sony thinks it has cracked it, and has hired Amy Schumer to star.

Schumer's casting has naturally been greeted with a wave of disbelief and the usual spitting negativity, but no one, it seems has considered the actual story of the new planned movie. Hilary Winston's script was picked out of a choice of three by Mattel and producers Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Amy Pascal to craft a film that will see Schumer's character realising that she doesn't fit in a world of seemingly perfect women. Expelled from the idealistic fantasy land, she arrives in our reality and discovers somewhere she can finally find acceptance. It's apparently taking aim at similar territory to the likes of Splash and Enchanted.

With the search for a director kicking off, Schumer and her regular writing partner/sister Kim Caramele will likely work on the script.
