Amy Adams Turns Con Artist

Just yesterday, we were reporting that Jeremy Renner is in negotiations to take on one of the lead roles in David O Russell’s latest, untitled pic. In that story, we mentioned that while the director likely now had Renner and Bradley Cooper in place, he was still looking for the female lead. He’s no longer looking, as The Fighter’s Amy Adams is in place.

The drama, once known as American Bullshit, will be finding some other name before it hits cinemas. It focuses on con artist Mel Weinberg (Cooper). When he’s nabbed during a particular sting by a driven FBI agent (Renner), he’s given a choice: getting thrown in jail by the long arm of the law or helping it to take down unscrupulous business types and crooked congressmen.

Adams is reteaming with Russell to play Maxine “Max” Gardner, Weinberg’s mistress and partner in crime.

With a script from Eric Singer based on the real-life scam run during the 1970s and 80s, Russell is looking to start shooting next year. Adams, meanwhile, has been appearing in Into The Woods as part of Shakespeare In The Park’s annual season in New York and has also worked on Spike Jonze’ latest. She’ll next be seen in, among other things,** The Master**, Trouble With The Curve and Man Of Steel.
