First-time director Robert Lorenz has a bit more clout than most freshman filmmakers, given that he’s Clint Eastwood’s long-time business partner in their Malpaso production company and secured the legendary thesp’s services for his drama Trouble With The Curve. But he’s had less luck finding a leading lady to play Clint’s estranged daughter in the film. The latest possibility? Amy Adams.

Curve finds Eastwood as an aging baseball scout struggling with the onset of blindness who decides to take a trip to Atlanta to check out a possible young star in the making. His daughter begrudgingly goes along in the hopes of rebuilding their relationship.

Lorenz and Eastwood had originally approached Sandra Bullock for the female lead, who seemed game and entered talks to take the role. But scheduling difficulties have made it impossible for her to sign on. Still, Adams is a solid second choice and was apparently already on Lorenz’ wish list of possible stars.

Adams is also fairly busy, so we’ll see if she makes the deal. But if she does, she’ll be adding Eastwood to the list of icons she’s worked with recently, including Kermit (in The Muppets) and Superman (in Man Of Steel, which she’s currently shooting).
