We already appreciate Amy Adams' acting talent. And if you combine that with the skills of Marielle Heller, who hasn't put a foot wrong in her directing career, that makes the prospect of new dark comedy neo-horror Nightbitch a compelling one.

Nothing to do with the Kick-Ass character, this sees Heller adapting Rachel Yoder’s bestselling novel. Adams stars as a woman thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, who slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine. Yep, that old story!

"Rachel Yoder‘s book took my breath away," says Heller in a statement. "I haven’t felt this way about a book since I read The Diary Of A Teenage Girl many years ago. Rachel’s darkly hilarious tale of motherhood and rage made me feel seen. And adapting it with Amy Adams in mind has been the thing that has kept me going through the pandemic."

Disney's Searchlight arm has nabbed the rights to this one, with the cameras due to start rolling in September. Currently, the plan is to launch the film on Hulu in the States, which points to a Disney+ release here in the UK.
