Amityville Gets A New Legacy

Thinkin' they won't? Goddammit, they will. Following eight original instalments and a 2005 remake with Ryan Reynolds, Hannibal Classics have just announced yet another Amityville Horror, this time in the form of **The Amityville Legacy 3D.

This one stems from the novel Amityville: The Evil Escapes by John G Jones, who wrote a number of continuations following Jay Anson's franchise-founding original book. It's already been the basis for two other films in the series, the TV movie The Evil Escapes, and 1992's DTV It's About Time.

Thankfully, we can rest assured that Legacy will not revolve around a possessed lamp, with Hannibal's lengthy (and spoilerific) synopsis describing six priests performing a traumatic exorcism, before the story flashes forward thirty years, and the unsuspecting Evans family move in to the house on the hill (y'all). You can probably infer the rest.

"The Amityville Legacy 3D reinvigorates a classic franchise with astonishing scares, dazzling set-pieces, and twists that will leave audiences shocked and hungry for more," it says here. Big talk, but we appreciate the sheer positive thinking of "classic franchise".

No director or cast yet, but the screenplay is by Andrew Helm and Steve B Harris, with Paul Mason (the 2005 Amityville Horror) and Richard Rionda Del Castro (Give Em Hell Malone) producing. Shooting is pencilled in for the autumn, with a Hallowe'en 2012 release planned.
