American Werewolf Remake Confirmed

After yesterday’s fan-inciting reports that Dimension Films had snapped up the remake rights to one of the last, truly great, untouched horror movies, An American Werewolf In London, today not only brings confirmation, but further details.

Yes, Dimension is behind the new version, the announcement of which caused such a shockwave of horror geek outrage that it apparently caused David Schofield to miss the board at a darts tournament. And he’s never missed that board before.

It’s very early, writer/director-less days yet, but the new movie will be produced by the Furst brothers, Sean and Bryan, who most recently produced the long-delayed vampire movie, Daybreakers. Confidence-inspiring, we’re sure you’ll agree.

But we’ve been here before, waving our pitchforks and flaming torches at the mere idea of a remake, only for that remake to turn out to be pretty damned decent.

OK, that was one time, with Zack Snyder’s Dawn Of The Dead, but there’s no reason why the new **American Werewolf **can’t be a success as long as the Fursts choose a good director, eschew crappy CG in favour of the sinew-snapping, ultra-realistic prosthetics that made the first so memorable, and – this is most important – stay on the roads and keep clear of the moors. If they do that, they’ve got a chance.

Oh, and need we mention that it would work best if the werewolf were American, and that it ran amok in London at some point? No? Good.
