As Phil Lord and Chris Miller inch closer to shooting action comedy sequel 22 Jump Street, more news has begun to emerge about the follow-up to Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt’s (Jonah Hill) undercover adventures, now out of high school and into college. Following word this past week that Ice Cube is officially back as Captain Dickson, the film has gained new recruits Amber Stevens and Wyatt Russell.
With a script from the original film’s writer Michael Bacall and polished by Oren Uziel, the new outing follows Schmidt and Jenko as they go undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. In addition to cracking the case, the two freshmen must figure out if they can have a mature relationship like real men.
Stevens, who appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man, will be Hill’s love interest, while Cowboys & Aliens veteran Russell is on board to play one of Tatum’s jock teammates.
Shooting is set to kick of shortly in New Orleans, and Sony will release the film in the UK on June 6, 2014, before the US release on June 13. Lord and Miller also have The Lego Movie headed our way on February 14 next year, wherein Tatum also voices Superman.
