A couple of years ago, an enticing potential movie bubbled up in development, as Cate Blanchett was attached to play Lucille Ball in a drama to be written by Aaron Sorkin. After a couple of years floating around, it has now landed at Amazon and is moving full steam ahead.

Production company Escape Artists is still backing the project, and the producers have Sorkin's script in hand. The next step, aside from finding someone to direct, will be to track down the person play Ball's former husband and long-time business partner (Deadline mentions that Javier Bardem is one of the names under consideration), and that the couple's children, Lucie Luckinbill and Desi Arnaz Jr are involved in what will be an authorised look at their tempestuous, successful partnership.

The actress and producer was a driving force alongside then husband Desi Arnaz for shows such as I Love Lucy, The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, The Lucy Show, Here’s Lucy and Life With Lucy. Before her TV stardom, she worked extensively in film and is still regarded as a comedy legend. She was also the first woman to own a studio, Desilu Productions, which helped get Star Trek off the ground and was eventually sold to Gulf + Western, which also owned Paramount.

This one is still in the works, then, but with the talent involved, it'll surely move quickly now it has some financial backing.
