For all of the talk about its shows at the San Diego Comic-Con this year, Amazon played coy about its ambitious plans for a Lord Of The Rings series. And, according to Variety, the company has found its first cast member, with Markella Kavenagh on board.

Amazon has yet to officially confirm her casting, but Variety's sources say that she's on to play a character called Tyra, though no details are naturally available yet. It makes the first piece of casting for the show, which JD Payne and Patrick McKay are developing. Game Of Thrones veteran Bryan Cogman is on to consult, while JA Bayona recently joined the show to direct multiple episodes.

Having dropped a huge chunk of change to acquire the rights to adapt material from JRR Tolkien's stories, Amazon is taking aim at stories that precede what we saw in Peter Jackson's cinematic trilogies. It has hinted that we'll see the Second Age, the time when the Rings of Power came into existence.

Kavenagh has been seen in shows such as the Romper Stomper prequel series and The Cry.
