Amazing Spider-Man Trilogy Confirmed

While word on the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man has been official for a while now, very little has been said beyond that. But with the movie now earning solid returns at the box office (it took $35 million on its launch day Tuesday), the first proper mention of the T-word ("trilogy", that is) has arrived via the movie’s official Facebook page.

It’s not shocking that producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach would look to keep the story ticking over; after all, the Sam Raimi version spawned three films, so they’ll be aiming to get at least that much from the rebooted universe, even if they do have to shove Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone into cryogenic freezers to keep them looking fresh as the years roll past.

The first movie – amid talk of edited plotlines and changed ideas – certainly leaves enough web-threads dangling to keep the mystery deepening about not only Peter Parker’s parents, but the man in charge of Oscorp.

With Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman recently hired to overhaul James Vanderbilt’s script for the second film, part two of the plan is well underway. From the sounds of it, the idea is for the Spider-universe to expand out in much the same way as Marvel’s other big heroes have, with the Venom spin-off being developed by Chronicle’s Josh Trank expected to play a part in the future. Arad and Tolmach have also made reference to developing the Sinister Six villain squad (which includes the likes of Doc Ock, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio) as the fuel for future outings. Not to mention a future redheaded love interest for Mr Parker…
