Stage star Ben Platt and Booksmart's Kaitlyn Dever are already aboard the film adaptation of award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen. Amandla Stenberg is joining them, and she'll also be involved in the music.

Platt is starring as Hansen, a high schooler with social anxiety who writes letters to try to help himself. He unintentionally gets caught up in a lie after the family of Connor, a classmate who committed suicide mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note. Dever will be Zoe, Connor's sister.

As for Stenberg, she's scored the part Alana — a high school senior whose cheery façade and social-media savvy mask a deeper loneliness and isolation. Her character's role will be expanded from the show, and Stenberg is working on a new song with lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who also crafted the music for the show.

Steven Levenson wrote the script, while Stephen Chbosky is directing the film for Universal. There's no word yet on when this one will kick off shooting.
