Fans of Paranormal Activity will eventually have a choice of two sequels rather than just one. A parallel second instalment is in preparation for Japanese audiences, under the title Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night{
It's not a Japanese-language remake. The entirely new story picks up after the Oren Peli original, and follows a foreign exchange student (via her home-videos, natch) who becomes the new object of the stalker-poltergeist's affection when she visits San Diego, and unwittingly brings it back to her Tokyo family home. Sounds like it bears a Grudge, ho ho.
“Paranormal Activity was a huge success with Japanese audiences", said producer Yasutaka Hanada, "and we feel confident that our own Japanese continuation of the franchise can find an enthusiastic genre audience both here and overseas.”
Toshikazu Nagae (Ghost System) is directing from his own screenplay, with Noriko Aoyama as his scream queen. The fast-moving production should get its home-territory release in December.
Paranormal Activity 2, English-language-style, is out for Hallowe'en.
