We swore, we promised, we pledged that the last Hairspray casting story we ran was absolutely the final one.
We lied. We’re not going to apologise. It’s not our fault!
But we just couldn’t shy away from the news that former West Wing actress Allison Janney has signed on to play Prudy Pingleton, the overbearing mother of Penny (Amanda Bynes). Prudy – as her name suggests – thinks any sort of performing is sinful.
Janney’s late casting means she’ll have to start rehearsing right away, as director Adam Shankman will start shooting next month for a summer 2007 release. For more on the film, find the previous stories here, hereand here.
