In news sure to send shivers down the spine of Empire editor Terri White and her Pilot TV colleague Boyd Hilton (because they know that Empire/Pilot podcast host/nemesis James Dyer will bang on about it ad infinitum), the Star Trek series focused on Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard has added three new names to its cast. Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway and Isa Briones are all aboard.
The series itself remains largely a mystery at this point; all we really know is that Stewart will be playing Picard at a later stage of his life than that seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation, but that he'll still be out there among the stars. The focus, however, is on more dramatic, emotional material than the often more straightforward action-adventure of his past voyages.
While the new additions are series regulars, there's no announcement as to what they'll play. They join the previously announced likes of Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd and Evan Evagora. In related news, Jonathan Frakes – AKA Picard's TNG First Officer Will Riker – is on to direct two episodes of the first season in his capacity as an experienced shot-caller, having worked with co-creator/producer Alex Kurtzman on Star Trek: Discovery. Kurtzman has been at work on the scripts alongside James Duff, Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, and Kirsten Beyer, with the show due to kick off shooting soon but no premiere date set.
