Alison Brie became best known for her TV work in Community and Mad Men, but of late she's been mixing in more movies (Doctor Thorne and voice duties on BoJack Horseman notwithstanding). Now she's headed back to our tellies, for new Netflix comedy drama G.L.O.W.
Created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, the series will take its inspiration from the real-life 1980s wrestling league the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling, which positioned itself as a female answer to the male-dominated World Wrestling Federation. The league was showcased in the eponymous Las Vegas-based TV show, full of kitsch, sketches, songs and, of course, wrestling.
That series ran for four seasons; while Netflix has so far commissioned 10 episodes of the new show, which will star Brie as a struggling Los Angeles actress who is thrust into a world of big hair and spandex when she lands a part on the series. And, given her experience with Netflix and female-centric stories, it might not surprise you to learn that Orange Is The New Black's Jenji Kohan will be an executive producer, though she'll only be offering guidance.
Brie will next be seen in indie movie Joshy, which premiered at Sundance, and James Franco's story of the making of The Room, The Masterpiece.
