The gathering of James Franco’s Friends, which sounds like a theatrical ensemble troupe we could picture him putting together, continues for his latest film. This time, it’s Alison Brie's turn to join the cast of The Disaster Artist.
Franco is both directing and starring in this one, chronicling Wiseau’s plans to make The Room, which became known as a famously cheesy misfire and is now revered as an unintentional comedy classic. Writers Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber have adapted actor Greg Sestero’s book The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, which he wrote with journalist Tom Bissell. The tome chronicles the chaotic creation of the film. Need a taste? Navigate this way{
Dave Franco is attached to star as Sestero, with Josh Hutcherson as fellow thesp Philip Haldiman and Zac Efron added recently for a cameo as a drug dealer. Also on for the fun? Seth Rogen, Ari Graynor, Kate Upton, Hannibal Buress, Jacki Weaver and Andrew Santino. The cameras are rolling now in Los Angeles.
Brie has a strong connection to the Franco family, as she’s engaged to Dave, which was clearly just a very method way of preparing for the role in this film as Greg Sestero’s on-screen girlfriend. She’s also busy elsewhere, and will be seen in rom com How To Be Single (due February 19) and drama The Headhunter’s Calling opposite Gerard Butler and Willem Dafoe.
