Alison Brie Joins Five-Year Engagement

It’s no secret that many on Team Empire are big fans of both Community and a little show called Mad Men. So when we learn that one of the best things about both series – actress Alison Brie – has scored a solid role in Nicholas Stoller’s Five-Year Engagement, we’re naturally thrilled.

Brie has been recruited to play the younger sister to Emily Blunt’s character. Blunt and Jason Segel are the couple that embark on the titular engagement and have to face the joys and challenges that come with it.

Stoller and Segal (who wrote the script together) have wanted to work with Blunt for a while now and are even letting her hang on to her British accent, which means Brie will be the one adapting to a different speech pattern. She’s not fazed, though. "I've worked on accents when I was studying at Cal Arts and in Scotland and enjoy that kind of transformation,” she tells Variety.

And if she wasn’t already a big swotty swot with her language skills, she also used her talk with the trade mag to big up a certain title that the Five-Year Engagement team worked on: Forgetting Sarah Marshall. “It really is one of my favourite films ever," she says. "I've watched it at least 20 times."

Judd Apatow’s producing and, while the main production is set to kick off next month, Stoller is already hard at work on pre-production shooting in Michigan, tweeting as he goes…
