Alison Brie in GLOW

The world of wrestling can be a flamboyant and dramatic one, and the realm of women's grappling in the 1980s is, if possible even more insane. The perfect setting, then for Netflix's new comedy drama GLOW, which stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Marc Maron and more. Slip into some spandex and check out the trailer...

Created by Nurse Jackie veterans Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, the series takes its inspiration from the real-life 1980s wrestling league the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling, which positioned itself as a female answer to the then-male-dominated World Wrestling Federation. The league was showcased in the eponymous Las Vegas-based TV show, full of kitsch, sketches, songs and, of course, wrestling.

Brie stars as Ruth, a struggling Los Angeles actress who is thrust into a world of big hair and spandex when she lands a part on the series. And, given her experience with Netflix and female-centric stories, it might not surprise you to learn that Orange Is The New Black's Jenji Kohan is an executive producer on this one, though we can expect 100% fewer prison riots here. Well, probably...

GLOW will wrestle its way on to the streaming service on 23 June.
