As it did with The Cloverfield Paradox, Netflix has nabbed another sci-fi thriller that was produced and ultimately left in limbo by a studio. This time it's Extinction, which had been lingering at Universal until the streaming service picked it up. The trailer for the movie is now online.

Extinction finds Michael Pena and Lizzy Caplan as a couple called Peter and Alice whose lives have settled into a relatively happy routine of work, family and home with their daughter Megan (Lilly Aspell). But Peter's nights have become haunted by dreams of an invading alien force. Even as they affect his relationship with his family, he starts to realise that they might not be simple nightmares, but terrifying prophesies of the future – one that starts to come true.

Peter will need to find the strength to protect those he loves and to discover who he truly is when the moment calls for it.

While the film may suffer following on the heels of the excellent double hit of A Quiet Place and Annihilation, we'll see how this one stacks up when it hits Netflix on 27 July.
