Miniseries (or, to use the US term "limited series") crime drama The Alienist has been a big hit for Stateside channel TNT and Netflix here, which means a sequel has now been ordered. Stars Dakota Fanning, Daniel Brühl and Luke Evans will all return for The Angel Of Darkness.

Fortunately for the creative team, Alienist author Caleb Carr used the first book to kick off a set of novels and Darkness will adapt the follow-up, sending Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and his unlikely companions on the trail of another dark threat lurking beneath the luster of New York's Gilded Age.

“We could not be prouder of The Alienist’s outstanding, award-worthy performance and all of the work the incredible actors and crew put in to bring that story and time period to life," says TNT's Sarah Aubrey. "Our audience fell in love with these multi-dimensional, timeless characters and the journey of their struggles living in complicated times. With this new story in TNT’s Suspense Collection, we will further immerse viewers into their world as they are confronted with a new enemy."

There's no word yet on when the new episodes might arrive on screens.
