Aiming to bring a new energy to the adaptation of the Tomb Raider games, the reboot offers up Alicia Vikander as the Raider herself, Lara Croft. The first trailer for the movie is now online.
In this incarnation, Lara is younger, a woman struggling to find her place in the world. After her eccentric, adventurous father (Dominic West) vanished when she was barely a teen, the younger Croft is now 21 and spending her days working as a bike courier while attending – occasionally – college classes.
Determined to forge her own path, she's refusing to take over her father's global empire, but then she discovers some new information about him, and is inspired to leave everything she knows behind in search of his last-known destination, a fabled tomb on a mysterious island somewhere off the coast of Japan (if it exists at all) and must push herself to the limit as she finds a new path in life. And, from the looks of the poster below, a chiropractor for that neck. Looks painful.
The Wave's Roar Uthaug directed the movie, which also features Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and Hannah John-Kamen. It'll be out in the UK on 16 March next year.
