It seems like the Rosamund Pike rumours were just so much wishful thinking after all. The news from Deadline this morning is that Alice Eve is in talks to play X-Babe Emma Frost in **X-Men: First Class.
Eve is getting seriously noticed in Hollywood of late, with a breakout role in Jay Baruchel's She's Out of My League, and an, ahem, "unsupported" supporting part in Sex and the City 2. A superhero movie sooner rather than later was almost a given. She lost Captain America's Peggy Carter to Hayley Atwell, but clearly turned some heads at Marvel anyway.
Frost is a telepathic femme fatale in an unlikely outfit, with twisty-turny allegiances that make her a member of the dastardly Hellfire Club (as White Queen) and Professor Xavier's gang of mutants. She was created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne in the early 80s, but had a bit of a renaissance in her own series in 2003, and has been a major player in Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-men comics ever since.
X-Men: First Class, a prequel charting the early days of the mutant brigade, is directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass), and already has James McAvoy and Michael Faassbender aboard as Professor X and Magneto. Shooting starts in and around London over the summer.
