The Directors Guild Of America held its awards ceremony on Saturday night and despite being nominated in two categories, Bradley Cooper went away empty handed as Alfonso Cuaron took the top prize for feature film for his work on Roma and Eighth Grade's Bo Burnham was handed the first-time feature film trophy.
While Vice's Adam McKay lost out on the film gong to Cuaron, he still had something to show for it, as he won dramatic series directing for Succession, with the comedy category going to Bill Hader on Barry. Ben Stiller took the TV movie/limited series award, winning for Escape at Dannemora.
Tim Wardle won the documentary prize for Three Identical Strangers, beating out the directors behind films such as Won't You Be My Neighbor?, Free Solo, Hale County This Morning, This Evening and RBG. You can find the full list of winners at the DGA site.
Though the main result points to Cuaron effectively being anointed as the potential Best Director winner at the Oscars, anything can happen between now and the 24th.
