For a long time now, all we knew about New Line’s hoped-for new action-adventure San Andreas was its high-concept earthquake-centred pitch and the fact that it’ll reunite J****ourney 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton with star Dwayne Johnson. An update has finally arrived in the shape of Percy Jackson’s Alexandra Daddario.
The actress, who has been winning plaudits for a much more mature role on HBO’s True Detective, has landed a crucial role as Johnson’s estranged daughter in the new 3D diasterthon. The Rock will be a helicopter pilot who must make a treacherous journey across an earthquake-wracked state to reach his wayward sprog.
San Andreas has been in development since late 2011, with New Line working from a pitch by Jeremy Passmore and Andrew Fabrizio to solicit scripts from Allan Loeb and Carlton Cuse. Now The Conjuring’s sibling scribbling duo Chad and Carey Hayes have written the latest draft.
Despite the clearly Californian setting (the film’s name refers to the fault line that causes worrying rumbles around Los Angeles, San Francisco and beyond), Peyton will shoot this one in Australia later this year, heading for a June 5, 2015 release date in the States.
Daddario has shot Joe Dante’s** Burying The Ex** and is at work on indie drug drama Unreachable By Conventional Means. She’s also been wooed by the Entourage team, but there’s no word on whether she’ll actually appear in that movie.
