After ages spent labouring unsuccessfully to get ambitious Milton-based angel epic **Paradise Lost** **up and running, Alex Proyas is jumping into something else entirely, locking in financing for an adaptation of Robert Heinlein’s novella The Unpleasant Profession Of Jonathan Hoag.
Heinlein’s 1942 book finds the title character suddenly realising one evening that he has no memory of what he actually does during the day. So he contracts the services of a detective agency run by a husband and wife to follow him around one day. What they discover is much more frightening than anything he could have imagined. And the investigators are warned by shadowy figures to cease their inquiries unless they want to suffer a nasty fate.
If the idea of lost time and shadowy figures springing from Proyas on screen sounds familiar, it’s not exactly the first time that the writer-director has drawn from the story, as it was also a big inspiration for Dark City.
With Red Granite pictures on board to make the movie happen, Proyas plans to shoot this autumn in Australia. Sounds like this one has a proper chance of making it to the screen...
