Huge armies! Lots of weapons! Gerard Butler speechifying! It’s the 300 prequel you never knew… No, wait. Lots of European/Australian actors playing ancient Egyptians. It’s the Exodus preq… Still no. This is actually the first trailer for Alex Proyas’ Gods Of Egypt.

Having been in the works for a while now, Proyas’ Egypt-set epic finds Butler going bad as god of darkness Set, who has usurped the throne of the country and plunged the once peaceful empire in to chaos and conflict. To stop him will require the talents of one brave mortal, thief Bek (Brenton Thwaites), who must join forces with Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), whom Set blinded ages ago, and who would be looking for a little vengeance.

But with a quest to retrieve magic objects and pass tests of courage and sacrifice (not to mention Horus spends some of the time with just the one returned eye, which means depth perception issues), can they defeat Set’s dreadful henchmen and army of creatures?

Proyas has the likes of Chadwick Boseman, Courtney Eaton, Abbey Lee, Geoffrey Rush, Rufus Sewell and Elodie Yung and a raft of visual effects on board for _Gods Of Egyp_t, which will land in our cinemas next year.
