Alex Pettyfer, best known for starring in Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker, is taking another crack at a film based on a book, negotiating to star in DreamWorks’ I Am Number Four.

Based on James Frey and Jobie Hughes’ young-adult sci-fi book, Four finds nine aliens as survivors of their home planet’s destruction. They hide out from their enemies by disguising themselves as humans on Earth, with the title character taking the form of a high school student.

But their troubles aren’t over – they soon discover that their enemy has followed them…

Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar (who know a little something about aliens arriving on Earth after their home planet is destroyed) have written the screenplay, which DreamWorks will be hoping can kick off a franchise, since the novel is part of a planned six-book series.

While the Heat Vision Blog has confirmed Pettyfer is in negotiations, credit for the original scoop goes to the good burghers over at FilmDrunk.
