Alex O'Loughlin, star of vampire crime drama Moonlight, has bagged himself the role of male lead opposite Jennifer Lopez for a new comedy that is currently going by two names - Plan B and The Back-Up Plan. Not sure which of the titles is the film company's plan B-name, but time will only tell...

J-Lo will play a singleton who decides to take matters into her own hands to quiet her biological clock, by reverting to her back up plan of artificial insemination in order to have a baby, only to have her dream man turn up just as she does so. Isn't it always the way: you wait ages for a sperm donor and then two come along at once...

Lopez, who has been listening to her own biological clock of late, has taken time out from acting to spend time with her baby twins, born last year. The movie will mark a return to comedy after 2005's Monster In Law with Jane Fonda.

Australian actor O'Loughlin, who has found fame Stateside with Moonlight, also had a memorable part in The Shield, as Vick Mackie's potential replacement as head of the strike team.

Alan Poul is to direct, having helmed such TV gems as wife-swapping '70s series Swingtown and women-at-work satire Pink Collar, starring Alicia Silverstone. Will & Grace writer Kate Angelo penned the screenplay.
