Alex Garland, novelist, Danny Boyle collaborator and screenwriter on 28 Days Later, Sunshine and most recently **Never Let Me Go, is reportedly on the verge of signing up to script the remake of Logan's Run, which Carl Rinsch is now set to direct for Warners.

The plan has been, ever since back in the day when Bryan Singer was planning to make this, to return to the source novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson and use that as the hook for the new film. The basic set-up, however, will remain the same: in a future world where resources are scarce, everyone is euthanised on reaching the age of 21 (30 in the 1976 film), and this rule is enforced by agents called "Sandmen". But when Sandman Logan finds his own birthday approaching, he still wants to escape his fate, and, well, goes on the lam.

Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman are producing this, so we expect a certain amount of scale in the finished product, but it's going to be a while before we see this on screens. Still, with Rinsch and Garland involved, it is looking pretty interesting - right?
