Though he would seem to have the ideal gravelly tones for the genre, Alec Baldwin isn't known for appearing in Westerns. He's looking to change that, signing on to star in and produce Rust.
Crown Vic writer/director Joel Souza is back on double duty for the new movie.
*Rust *follows infamous western outlaw Harland Rust (Baldwin), who has had a bounty on his head for as long as he can remember. When his estranged 13-year-old grandson Lucas is convicted of an accidental murder and sentenced to hang, Rust travels to Kansas to break him out of prison. Together, the two fugitives must outrun the legendary US Marshal Wood Helm and bounty-hunter Fenton “Preacher” Lang, who are hot on their tail. Deeply buried secrets rise from the ashes and an unexpected familial bond begins to form as the mismatched duo tries to survive the merciless American Frontier.
Baldwin previously produced cop thriller Crown Vic, so this represents him reuniting with Souza, and he also came up with the story for Rust. There's no word yet on when it might start shooting, but with restrictions loosening and productions looking to gear up, it should be going ahead in the next few months.
