Beyond its big success at the box office, Straight Outta Compton has become something of an incubator for new talent that other studios have been grabbing up at a quick rate. Joining co-stars Jason Mitchell and Corey Hawkins on the hired list is Aldis Hodge, who is in talks for **Jack Reacher 2.

Ed Zwick is directing the sequel to Christopher McQuarrie’s film based on Lee Child’s book series. He’s been at work with usual co-writer Marshall Herskovitz to hone a draft of the script adapted from Never Go Back, which finds Reacher (played once again by Tom Cruise) travelling from South Dakota to his old military base in Virginia, to be charged with a violent incident and faced with a paternity case, neither of which transgression he remembers.

Hodge joins Danika Yarosh in the likely list of Cruise co-stars, though she might have a scheduling conflict with Heroes Reborn. And then there’s Cobie Smulders, who may also end up in the movie. To be fair to Hodge, he’s been paying his dues for two decades as an actor on both movies and TV, most recently on period espionage drama Turn and in A Good Day To Die Hard. As for Reacher, it should be starting production next month, ready for an October 21, 2016 release.
