When we talked to Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor at the D23 event last month, he admitted he was tired after a long production and editing process. But it doesn't look like the Game Of Thrones veteran is scaling things down for his next film. If anything, he’s going even bigger, entering talks to take on the new Terminator movie.

According to Variety, Taylor is chatting with Paramount, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures about the project, which is still largely secret.

So far what we mostly know about the new take is that Terminator 5 (or whatever they call it) will essentially reboot the mythology and launch a new trilogy, though of course that could all change by the time it hits the screen. Arnold Schwarzenegger keeps insisting he’ll be back, though we don’t yet know in what capacity that will be.

Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier have written the script for the film, and the producers were apparently hoping to get Ang Lee involved. When that didn’t pan out, they’ve been through a list that is said to include Rian Johnson and Denis Villeneuve, but Taylor’s solid handling of the Thor sequel shoot got him in the door.

We hope he’s ready to get back to work: this new Terminator has to be ready to roll off of Skynet’s production line in June 2015.
