Argo Oscar nominee and everybody’s favourite loveably grumpy grandpa, Alan Arkin, has baseball on his mind. He’s joining the cast of Disney drama Million Dollar Arm alongside Jon Hamm.
Craig Gillespie, who last made Fright Night, is directing the tale of a real-life sports agent (Hamm) who discovered professional pitchers Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel after running a reality show for the sport with Indian cricket players. Once he noticed how similar the bowling motion was to pitching, he hosted Million Dollar Arm in Mumbai to audition potential baseball stars. Win Win director Tom McCarthy wrote the script.
Arkin is set to play a retired baseball scout in the movie, which starts shooting in Mumbai next month before moving to Atlanta to finish up. As for Arkin, he’s just shot boxing comedy Grudge Match and will also be seen in Stand-Up Guys, with Al Pacino and Christopher Walken, and In Security. He’s also one of the better things about The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, which is still showing in some cinemas.
