No doubt hoping for a kudos boost after one or two dodgy bigger releases (The Switch didn’t exactly set the box office alight or the critics’ hearts aflame), Jennifer Aniston has been attached for a while to dark indie dramady Buttercup. But now she’s found an Oscar winner to play her father, in the shape of Alan Arkin.
The film will find Arkin as a hugely irresponsible father whose life falls apart when his wife dies. He tries to put his life back together but, trouble is, that’s not quite as easy for him as he first thinks, so he recruits his neurotic daughter (Aniston) to help.
Whale Rider director Niki Caro is behind the camera for this one, which was written by Alice O’Neil.
Arkin and Aniston will start work on the film next spring, but if you’re itching for an Arkin fix before that, he’s cropping up in Todd Philips’ Due Date and The Convincer, with Billy Crudup and** Little Miss Sunshine** co-star Greg Kinnear.
