Acclaimed at this year’s Sundance (and awarded several prizes including the Grand Jury Award), David Lowery’s crime-fuelled, character-focused drama Ain’t Them Bodies Saints has now released a trailer over at Apple’s site.
Set in the 1970s, Saints follows Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara), an impassioned young outlaw couple on an extended crime spree, who are finally apprehended by lawmen after a shootout in the Texas hills.
Although Ruth wounds a local officer, Bob takes the blame. Four years later, Bob escapes from prison and sets out to find Ruth and their daughter, born during his incarceration. Unfortunately, in that time, Ruth has grown close to Patrick Wheeler (Ben Foster) and the reunion doesn’t seem fated to be a happy one.
Lowery has assembled a great cast here, with the likes of Keith Carradine, Rami Malek and Nate Parker backing up the central trio. Ain’t Them Bodies Saints arrives in the US on August 16, but is still awaiting a UK date.
