He’s regularly seen plotting and planning as Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish on Game Of Thrones, and Aidan Gillen is now looking to bring his honed talent for malignant schemes to the M****aze Runner universe. He’s signed on to play a villain named Janson in **Maze Runner: Scorch Trials{ =nofollow}.

20th Century Fox was already developing the film, based on Maze author James Dashner’s second book, even before the first launched successfully at the US box office last weekend. It’s now full steam ahead for returning director Wes Ball and co, with shooting scheduled to kick off next month.

Any further discussion of course ventures into Spoiler Territory, so those who haven’t read the books should think about avoiding the following paragraph. Scorch Trials picks up what happens after Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and the other survivors of the Glade and its surrounding maze go on the run on an Earth that has been ravaged by solar flares. Gillen’s Janson – he’s also known as Rat-Man – is one of their biggest foes and is likely to be seen in the film (or films, given current trends in young adult franchises) based on final book The Death Cure.

Gillen was last seen on the big screen in Calvary, and is in the thriller Still. He’s also worked on a comedy called **You’re Ugly Too **and will of course be back on Thrones when it returns to TV next year.
